Peter Sforza named new co-director of CGIT as center teams up with Enterprise GIS as part of a new initiative, offering one-stop-shop solution for GIS data applications, access, storage and hosting.
Randy Dymond, founding director of the Center for Geospatial Information Technology and Erv Blythe, Virginia Tech's vice president for information technology, have formed a partnership to create a restructured entity to advance geospatial science and research at Virginia Tech through collaborations with Virginia Tech faculty and administrators, research centers, local, state and federal agencies, and external partners.

Virginia Tech’s Vice President of Information Technology announces launch of Enterprise GIS website
BLACKSBURG, Va., March 26, 2009 – Today Virginia Tech’s Vice President of Information Technology, Erv Blythe and the Enterprise GIS group announced the launch of their website, www.gis.it.vt.edu.
The website establishes an online presence for the newly created Enterprise GIS Research and Development Administration group within IT, and contains information, tutorials, tools and software geared towards the needs of university researchers, administrators, and related partners interested in integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis or visualization tools into their activities.
The Enterprise GIS Research and Development Administration Group provides centralized storage and hosting of GIS data, web mapping applications hosting and design assistance, and a centralized base map for the campus and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
